IMS Tour Overview

Institute of Modern Spanish (IMS) staff assists students with travel arrangements to cultural locations by making reservations on behalf of the student with a local travel agent/excursion operator. These include excursions to the Mayan ruins– Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, Uxmal/Kabah, Ruta Puuc—, to a Wildlife Reserve and Beach town—Celestún, to some cultural villages, and to “sink holes” for swimming. The excursion operator that IMS routinely uses for these excursions provides excellent service at economical rates. Average full day excursions price is US$39.00 with the exception of the Celestún excursion and the Ruta Puuc/Loltún excursion; these excursions are US$51.00 and US$43.00 respectively. There is no additional cost for reserving these excursions through IMS. IMS accepts Paypal or Mexican peso cash payment and gives an excursion ticket to the student. Students meet up with the excursion operator at a hotel in walking distance of the student’s home or will have a taxi paid by the excursion operator to tour departure point . You will be provided with the details when reserving an excursion. Actual price of the excursion and entrance fees may vary slightly due to the fluctuation of the Mexican peso. While the excursion ticket can be paid with Paypal or Mexican peso cash, entrance fees are paid in Mexican peso cash at the ruin site.

Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins Uxmal Light & Sound Uxmal & Kabah Ruta Puuc & Loltún Caves Celestún Wildlife Reserve Dizbilchaltún Ruins & Cenote Izamal Magic Village / Holy City Cuzama Cenotes (Sink Holes) The most famous of the Mayan ruin sites in the Yucatán. Recommended for either a Saturday or a Sunday because it is a full-day excursion with a 9:00 AM departure and an evening return (5:30 PM). However, this excursion is offered daily. The excursion includes transportation in air-conditioned motor coach, bilingual guide, visit to the major Mayan ruin site of “Chichén Itzá,” and lunch at a near-by hotel (beverages not included) with time for swimming if desired. Entrance fee paid at ruin site are not included and are approximately US$18.00. Ask about the new Light and Sound Show.

IMPORTANT FOR YOUR SAFETY: Some excursions include the option of swimming in sink-holes (cenotes). Most sink-holes are 50 meters or more deep. If you do not swim well or have a medical condition, please let us know in advance. We will help you acquire a life jacket. Sink holes—Cenotes—are still fabulous sites to visit even if you choose not to swim. Consider bringing a life jacket of your own. WHAT TO BRING: It is important to wear comfortable shoes, to bring water, and to have something to protect yourself from the sun—a hat or umbrella. With the exception of Ruta Puuc and Izamal, the excursions include some time for swimming—whether it be in the swimming pool of the restaurant or at the beach. For that reason, it is important to remember to bring your swimwear and beach towel.
