Founded in 1995, the Institute of Modern Spanish was the first private language institute (Spanish school) in the city of Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico, to develop educational programs devoted to the instruction of the Spanish language and Mexican & Latin American culture through full Spanish language immersion. Located in the State of Yucatan, the Institute of Modern Spanish, is a Mexican culture and Spanish school that provides the students with the opportunity to learn Spanish in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico which is considered one of the safest cities in the world and among the most beautiful and culturally enriched cities in all of Mexico and Latin America.

Our Spanish school is based on a new concept of language learning called Integrated Spanish Language Learning. Our programs integrate Spanish immersion language classes with a unique Mexico cultural experience with family homestay (Merida, Yucatan, Mexico). By replacing memorization of Spanish language grammar rules with a total cultural experience, we enable our students to leave our programs with a knowledge of Spanish that is practical, culturally applicable, and long-lasting. Our Spanish language school faculty are experienced in teaching all levels of students--from beginners to the most advanced. Our language immersion courses integrate all aspects of Spanish language learning--speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We feel that this is the best method of teaching the Spanish language as it is used in today's world. Furthermore, we use a variety of language teaching methods to ensure that all learning styles enrolled in our Spanish language school are met.
Our comfortable facility includes air conditioned classrooms, swimming pool and wireless internet. Institute of Modern Spanish students don't just spend time the classroom, they also spend time on excursions and in extra learning activities attractive to all ages. Our Institute is within walking distance of Altabrisa mall, movie theaters, medical and dental care, restaurants and bars, ADO bus station with direct routes to Cancun and Cancun airport, and much more. "The lessons were very engaging!"
This is a wonderful way to learn Spanish and to visit the land of the ancient Maya. The Yucatan Peninsula is an amazing place with so many things to absorb and learn. The Institute of Modern Spanish was a like a second home to me. They set me up with the BEST host family I could have ever asked for, and always had an open door. I have taken many Spanish classes in my life, but Willy Lopez, a teacher at the school, is the best Spanish teacher I have ever had. I highly recommend this school to anyone. The Yucatan is a very special place to visit, and the Institute of Modern Spanish allows you the flexibility to communicate while you´re there.

“My teachers were Amazing!”
My instructor was knowledgeable and friendly. I learned a lot. In addition, the Institute arranged for us to take a side trip to Celestun, a bird and wildlife reserve on the Gulf coast just west of Merida. We also visited a working henequen hacienda (Sotuta de Peon) and learned about processing the plant into rope. We refreshed ourselves swimming in a (well-supervised) underground cave called a "cenote." I recommend visiting the Institute of Modern Spanish.

“I loved my time spent in Merida”
This beautiful modern school in a quiet, safe neighborhood of Merida, Yucatan is a great place to learn Spanish. I had the total immersion experience of a host family plus the encouragement of the Institute's teaching staff to get me started with what for me was a completely new language. The school organizes trips to local sites so there are always things to do and see. I plan to go back for more classes soon. Highly recommended!
