Accommodations & Housing
In order to obtain the most benefits from our Integrated Language Learning Programs, we urge you to stay with local families selected by our institute for their willingness to welcome students into their homes.
With such families, you will be provided with a clean, private room and three delightful home-cooked meals daily. Safe water for drinking, warm water for bathing, clean sheets and bath towels will also be provided. Any special dietary needs--including vegetarian diets--will be met. This is an excellent opportunity to practice Spanish and experience the local culture firsthand. All host families are experienced in providing an invaluable source of both city orientation and conversation for students as well as an insiders view of customs and traditions.
Family Homestays
Information about your family including name, address, and telephone number will be available prior to your departure (approximately one week prior). We recommend you bring a small gift which is representative of your country or state for your host family to enjoy. Our housing personnel maintains an extensive list of carefully selected host families, and choose the host family that will be the best match for each student—not only in physical accommodations, but also taking into consideration a student’s interests and preferences. We know what students want from a homestay experience, and can match students with the ideal host family arrangement. Host families provide the Institute of Modern Spanish with the valuable service of airport pickup.
Student Dormitory
The Institute of Modern Spanish operates a student dormitory house located in Colonia Maya–one block from the Spanish language school and in walking distance of Altabrisa Mall. These accommodations are similar to a hostel with shared rooms as well as shared bathrooms. The five upstairs and three bathrooms are reserved for women, while the three downstairs bedrooms with two bathrooms are reserved for men. This guest house has a common area for the rest and relaxation of its residence and includes a pool side terrace, a kitchenette, grill, and yard area. There is wi-fi throughout the facility. The bedrooms are well ventilated. There are between two and four beds per room. There is a bi-weekly cleaning service. Laundromats and convenience stores are in walking distance. Breakfast and dinner are included. Lunch plan can be purchased separately at a nearby cafeteria style restaurant for approximately $6/day.
Hotels & Apartments
Hotels/Hostels & Student Dormitory Rooms: Merida hosts a variety of hotel, hostel, and B&B accommodations for all tastes and price ranges. If you are an adventurous, budget traveler, hostels are an option for you. If you prefer more luxurious conditions–there are five star hotels for around US$100.00 a night. Most students find their tastes and budgets fall about in the middle and opt to stay in a downtown medium-priced hotel or B&B for around US$40.00/night. You can arrange your own hotel stays online at such from such sites as Trip Advisor, or let the Institute of Modern Spanish arrange it for you. Another option, although for the economically minded Spanish student, is a room in the student housing—a great option as far as location and socializing.
